Starting with Saturday's SEC East showdown against Missouri, the University of South Carolina will use metal detectors as an added safety feature at Williams-Brice Stadium for home football games.

The move comes at the recommendation of the Southeastern Conference, which has asked all SEC schools to begin using metal detectors at football and other events by 2020, South Carolina announced Wednesday.

USC will use a limited number of metal detectors on a test run for its Oct. 6 home football game against Missouri, and again on Oct. 27 for its home football game against Tennessee, university officials say.

The school will be using temporary metal detectors for its final two home games, and hopes to have permanent ones installed by the 2019 season, USC says.
