Fort Dorchester quarterback Dakereon Joyner has been named a finalist for South Carolina's Mr. Football 2017.

Joyner, a University of South Carolina commit and the 2016 All-Lowcountry and S.C. Gatorade Player of the Year, joins four other players from around the state among the finalists, but is the only one from the Lowcountry.

Joyner, who was selected this week to play in the Shrine Bowl, has passed for more than 1,000 yards, and has rushed for nearly 500, scoring a total of 24 touchdowns.

Joyner passed for more than 6,800 yards and ran for over 2,100 yards in his sophomore and junior seasons combined, accounting for 104 touchdowns.

He helped led the Patriots to the S.C. AAAA State Championship in 2015.
