A Walterboro man convicted of a 2015 murder has been sentenced to 51 years in prison.

Sidney Antoine Holmes, 26, was sentenced Wednesday. He's accused of killing 51-year-old Steven Cochran, of Hampton.

Prosecutors say Cochran was the building manager for the Hampton Garden Apartments. The night of Aug. 1, 2015, Cochran called police to ask for help getting a group of people loitering in the parking lot to leave the property.

While on the phone with police, prosecutors say Holmes ran up to Cochran and shot him to death.

"This was a brazen murder committed in front of a group of people," said Randolph Murdaugh, Ill, a prosecutor with the 14th Circuit Solicitor's Office. "(Holmes) has a total and utter disregard for anything or anyone."

In addition to murder, Holmes is charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime, firing a gun into a dwelling, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Circuit Court Judge Perry Buckner sentenced Holmes.
