Popular teenage fashion retailer Rue21 is closing 400 stores across the U.S., and the one at the Citadel Mall is among the casualties.
The announcement comes as the chain is rumored to be headed for bankruptcy, according to a report by Reuters earlier this month.
Rue21 is the second large retailer to announce plans to close its Citadel Mall location in as many months.
In March, JCPenney executives gave word two South Carolina stores would be closed, including the one at the mall on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard.
Both the Rue21 and JCPenney closure announcements come on the heels of the Citadel Mall being sold in February to local businessman Richard Davis.
Davis bought the site for a reported $17M. He told ABC News 4 after the announcement he plans to keep the mall's current structure, but turn it into more of a mixed-use site.
