A 17-year-old boy is in jail on firearm and stolen vehicle charges after leading authorities on a high-speed chase through North Charleston on Thursday.

Cassius Demetrius Jermaine Brown caused several crashes and a fire as he ran from police Thursday in a stolen vehicle, according to North Charleston Police affidavits.

A judge Friday set Brown's bond at $150,000. He's still in law enforcement custody, charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, failure to stop for blue lights and unlawful carrying of a handgun.

Police say they began tracking Brown after a license plate reader on Dorchester Road alerted them to the stolen car Thursday. Officers located Brown near Rivers Avenue, where the teen sped away, leading officers on a lengthy chase.

The pursuit ended when Brown crashed into some cars outside an apartment complex on O' Hear Avenue. Afterward, video shows the stolen vehicle Brown was reportedly driving caught fire.

After Brown's arrest, police say they found a handgun on the driver's side floorboard of the car.
