The state murder trial has been delayed for Michael Colucci, a prominent former Summerville jeweler accused of killing his wife.

Robert Kittle, spokesman for the South Carolina Attorney General's office, said Tuesday Colucci's trial has been put on hold due to the unavailability of an expert witness sought by the defense.

Jury selection in Colucci's trial was to have begun Monday, Oct. 8. Kittle says a new trial date is tentatively set for November 26.

Colucci was charged in May 2016 with his wife's May 2015 death. Sara Moore-Colucci was found dead of apparent strangulation at an address on N. Main Street in Summerville.

Colucci told investigators originally he'd found his wife hanged by the neck with a garden hose, but evidence collected at the scene was inconsistent with his story, according to SLED affidavits.
