Officials with the South Carolina Department of Corrections say an inmate has escaped from a maximum security prison near Ridgeville in Dorchester County.
Corrections officials say Jimmy Causey, pictured above, escaped from Lieber Correctional Institution shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Causey, 46, is 6-foot-2, 177 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Officials say he has a scar on the left side of his chin.
This marks the second time Causey has escaped from a South Carolina prison. According to a report by Meg Kinnard with the Associated Press, Causey and another inmate escaped Broad River Correctional Institution in Columbia in 2004 by hiding in a trash truck. They were captured three days later.
Court records show Causey is serving a life sentence for kidnapping after he was convicted in 2004 of holding a Columbia-area attorney and his family hostage at gunpoint in their home.
If you see Causey, or have any information about where he may be, call 1-877-349-2130. A reward is being offered for information leading to his capture.
