Hundreds gathered for a special memorial service for the Emanuel 9 Saturday , marking the second anniversary of the tragedy which unfolded inside the Calhoun Street church June 17, 2015.
Church members, family, and friends filled the auditorium of the Gailard Center, where the Emanuel AME Church choir and Charleston Symphony Orchestra performed in tribute to the nine people killed, and the three survivors.
Nine pastors stood one by one to offer powerful messages and prayer to the families of the victims. Near the end of the ceremony, renowned artist Leroy Campbell gave a personal copy of his painting "Bible Study," to each family.
