The Oakbrook Middle School teacher accused of sexual misconduct with a student has resigned.
Dorchester County School District 2 spokesperson Pat Raynor confirmed Thursday that Allison Chilton is no longer an employee of the school district because she resigned.
Chilton, 27, was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 9, and charged with two counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, and one count of criminal solicitation of a minor. She has since been released from the Dorchester County Detention Center after posting a $30,000 bond.
The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office began investigating Chilton after the father of one of Chilton's former students discovered text messages between the teacher and his daughter, deputies say.
The text messages said things such as “I want to be your wife” and “I just want to hold you,” the father told police. The messages made the father worry about his daughter reportedly meeting Chilton in a classroom alone during recess to receive "extra help for her grades."
According to affidavits provided by the DCSO, the child when questioned told investigators Chilton kissed her and fondled her breast. The affidavits show Chilton reportedly admitted to kissing the child when interrogated.
Police say the incidents would've occurred between August-December 2017.
According to Raynor, Chilton had worked for DD2 since 2013, and taught special education in English language arts and mathematics.
(A previous version of this article stated Chilton was fired. Chilton resigned.)
