A man is facing several criminal charges after the Charleston County Sheriff's Office says he ran from deputies and and tossed drugs from his vehicle late Saturday night in North Charleston.
The ordeal began around 11:30 p.m., when a sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop on the suspect's vehicle in the area of Rivers Avenue and Piggly Wiggly Drive.
The driver refused to stop, according to deputies, which led to a short car chase. While trying to get away, deputies say the driver threw several small bags of illegal drugs out of the car.
Deputies eventually seized 458 grams of marijuana and some methamphetamine.
The driver, Michael Collins, 39, remained in jail Sunday afternoon, charged with Failure to Stop for Blue Lights, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute and Possession of Methamphetamine.
Bond for Collins has been set at $65,000.
