The woman accused of breaking into and vandalizing Philip Simmons Middle School Monday night has been arrested.
Whitney Burrows, 37, was arrested Wednesday in Mount Pleasant. Sheriff's office Chief Deputy Mike Cochran says investigators were able to identify her as the suspect after receiving multiple tips based on images from surveillance video released Tuesday.
Burrows is charged with second degree burglary.
Initially, the sheriff's office saidBurrows broke into the school, tore artwork off the walls, and damaged computer equipment In a press release Wednesday, the sheriff's office said she also knocked over a vending machine.
School officials alerted parents about the situation Tuesday. Classes were not affected by the incident, and staff had the mess cleaned up in time for school to start, according to an email sent to parents.
Burrows is in jail at the Hill-Finklea Detention Center. She has a bond hearing scheduled for Thursday morning at 9 a.m.
