Charleston County Sheriff's Office deputies says a person was found dead in a burning vehicle late Tuesday night just outside Summerville.

(UPDATE | Ladson man, 20, identified as victim found shot to death in burning car)

The discovery was made around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday as deputies investigated reports of gunshots near Magnolia Bay Apartments along the 10000 block of Hwy. 78, according to Lt. Chris Brokaw with the sheriff's office.

While patrolling the area, deputies saw a fire in a wooded area behind the apartments, which turned out to be a vehicle burning with a dead person in the driver’s seat, Lt. Brokaw says.

Investigators say they don't yet know if the burning vehicle is related to the original shooting report.

The case remains under investigation, and further details about the incident had not been made available as of 6 a.m. Wednesday.
