Customer accidentally shot at Dimitrio's restaurant in Walterboro

A person has been flown to Trident Medical Center for treatment after an accidental shooting Friday, Feb. 7, inside Dimitrio's House of Pizza in Walterboro.

Walterboro Police say a customer was standing in line at the Dimitrio's checkout counter shortly after 12:15 p.m. Friday when the accidental shooting occurred.

According to police, a handgun fell out of the pocket of a second customer standing behind the shooting victim, and the gun fired when it hit the ground.

The bullet fired from the pistol hit the victim in their back and back of their head.

Colleton County Fire-Rescue transported the shooting victim to the Colleton Medical Center, from where they were then flown to Trident for further treatment.

The victim was conscious and alert as they were being transported to Trident, police say.

Walterboro Police say 29-year-old Steven Harrison, the customer who possessed the gun, has been charged with unlawful carrying of a handgun.
