Original report, 8:30 a.m. - A 1-year-old has been flown to the Medical University of South Carolina hospital in Charleston after being injured by gunfire in a suspected drive-by shooting early Tuesday morning in Colleton County.

The shooting incident happened along the 1700 block of Whitehall Road around midnight, according to Colleton County Fire-Rescue Chief Barry McRoy.

The child was shot in the leg, according to Chief McRoy. Fire-Rescue transported the child by ambulance to meet with a CARE Flight helicopter nearby, and the child was flown to MUSC from there.

The child was stable at the time, McRoy said.

The Colleton County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. Further details had not been released as of 8 a.m.
