Emergency and local government officials are meeting Tuesday morning at the Charleston County Emergency Operations Center to update the public on preparations for impacts of Hurricane Florence.

Florence is a category 4 hurricane moving west-northwest toward the southeastern coast of the United States, projected to make landfall somewhere along the coast of North Carolina or South Carolina on Thursday, Sept. 13.

Gov. Henry McMaster has declared a state of emergency in South Carolina, and on Monday issued evacuation orders for 26 coastal counties, including Charleston.

Evacuations are set to begin at noon, including the reversal of the Interstate 26 eastbound lanes from Charleston to Columbia.
