Bishop England’s baseball team will start their journey toward a second consecutive state title Saturday when the Bishops take on Gilbert in game one of the S.C. 3A State Championship series.

The Bishops advanced after taking the Lower State finals with a 2-1 win over Gilbert High School on the strength of a dominant pitching by future Clemson Tiger Geoffrey Gilbert.

Gilbert struck out 14 batters and allowed 1 run on 1 hit through 6-1/3 innings before he was pulled from the game for reaching the 100-pitch limit. Gregory Sanders and Matthew Lobeck drove in runs for BE.
