Charleston Police have arrested a second suspect in connection to a December incident where someone fired a gun at officers attempting to make a traffic stop.

Calvin Smith, Jr., 22, is in jail at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center, charged with two counts each of attempted murder and failure to stop for blue lights.

Charleston Police say on December 30, they tried to stop a vehicle on Carriage Lane off Ashley River Road after smelling marijuana coming from the car.

That's when police say the vehicle sped away. As a high-speed chase ensued, police say the front passenger, 19-year-old Brianna Sampson, fired a gun toward officers from inside the vehicle.

Sampson and another passenger were arrested outside the Palmilla Apartments after bailing out of the vehicle, police said. Smith wasn't caught at the time.
