Hootie and the Blowfish and the Charleston County School District are partnering again to help Charleston County children as they head back to school.
The 12th annual Hootie's Homegrown Roundup will be Saturday, August 11, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Burke High School in Charleston.
The ongoing partnership between the band and CCSD focuses on providing one thousand Charleston County students key services as well as back-to-school supplies, including haircuts, dental exams, eye exams, backpacks, notebooks, and pencils.
Services and supplies are donated by the band Hootie & the Blowfish and various local community businesses.
Members of Hootie & the Blowfish, including Darius Rucker, will be at the event to interact with students and their families.
This year, the Roundup will serve the needs of the following schools:
- A.C. Corcoran Elementary
- Charleston Progressive Academy
- E.B. Ellington Elementary
- Hunley Park Elementary
- Jane Edwards Elementary
- Malcolm C. Hursey Elementary
- Matilda F. Dunston Primary
- Meeting Street Elementary at Brentwood
- Memminger Elementary
- Springfield Elementary
- St. James-Santee Elementary-Middle.
The event is not open to the public. Students at the included schools were sent applications to attend, and the application deadline has passed.
